News Guardian - Trojans start with defeat
TyneMet Trojans began their league season disappointingly with a home defeat to Team Northumbria on Sunday at TyneMet’s Sports Centre.
The game started well for the Trojans with Urwin, Burrell, Sommerville, Campbell and Graham all getting on the scoresheet for the Trojans. However, this lively start was matched by Team Northumbria who took a small lead into the second quarter.
The Trojans stepped up a gear in the second quarter and began to play some excellent basketball, including good offensive play from Sean Robison who also weighed in with some steals and baskets. Richard Copeland came on and hit a few big shots and two big three pointers from Anthony Mannell took the Trojans into the lead. The lead was enhanced further when Burrell hit a 3 pointer on the half time buzzer to take the Trojans into the dressing room with a 39-33 lead.
The 3rd quarter saw the visitors start to make their way back into the game with some excellent shooting by Danny Williams and Dijon Fisher. As the quarter rolled on the Trojans started to tire as Team Northumbria made them work hard on defence and a Karl Walther 3 pointer on the buzzer gave Northumbria a 4 point lead going into the final quarter.
A frantic final quarter saw end to end action as both teams traded baskets. With only 4 minutes remaining Team Northumbria finally stamped their authority on the game and began to put some points between the two teams. Eventually the visitors lead was stretched out to double figures. The final buzzer ended the game with Team Northumbria running out 90-75 winners.
